Is It Fair?

The protesting of women.

Women. What and who are women? Women are people who are moms, wives, partners and etc. They try their hardest financially and mentally to Survive and give their families all that they can. They strive to succeed and get amazing jobs to allow them to do all things. But as many know many jobs aren’t fair enough to the women and font allow women have equal jobs as men ad they don’t even get paid what they are supposed to get paid. It says that even when women have a greater and a more important job that they make the same amount as men in the lower jobs and this leads me to the article “Wanted: More Women in Top Jobs”.

Wanted: More Women in Top Jobs

The article talks about all of the ways that jobs are unfair to women and how and or what jobs are given to women are unfair because you can see that they are given lower jobs and less important jobs than men. I like to think that the reason people do this is that they think that men can do better than women but this isn’t true. Women and men are capable of achieving the same things and can achieve the same things. But as we can see in the world they think differently. By reading the article you can see that it says “Companies with equal numbers of men and women in high-level positions see their profits rise. However, the survey found, the vast majority of these top jobs are occupied by men. Experts say that companies are making an effort to improve their gender diversity. Still, they’re not doing enough.” This shows what I mean about the unfairness in the giving of jobs. But for me I think its unfair and not right for women.

The reasoning

The reason that i think its unfair is because when looking at the article you can see that men are being praised. People are think that men can do better things than women and that they bring in more customers and they allow for better pay. Then in reality when you look back at the article you can see that they are wrong. Because it says “The 2014 survey, which looked at 366 companies, found that companies with a balance of men and women in leadership roles are more successful. These companies are more likely to report above-average profits. Companies with more balanced leadership also have stronger customer relations because they better reflect the diversity of society. In addition, these companies tend to make better business decisions. That’s because more points of view are considered.”. This shows that with men and women in the work field and you allow for it to be even and fair then companies would be better and would get more customers to come and visit and buy things.

We all have rights!

Were it all started

It all started in the Europeans where the Age of Absolutism started. The Age of Absolutism was the period around the 17th and 18th centuries when Europe (kind of) was ruled by very powerful monarchs. Monarchs with absolute control. Thus, the Age of Absolutism. Absolute monarchs were rulers who held all the power in a country which made them Absolutism monarchs. An Absolutism monarchy is a monarch where the king gets all the power over the state and our country and can’t be told no and the community doesn’t have any saying against what he is wanting to do. It also limits freedom. What it isn’t is a constitutional monarchy. A constitutional monarchy does the opposite of what absolute monarchs do. It allows freedom. It allows the community to have a saying in any law the king is thinking of making for the country.

Absolutism or Constitutionalism?

All around the world back then there were more Absolutism monarchs than there was constitutionalism. An example of an absolutist monarch was Isabella and Ferdinand. She had many accomplishments and here are some of the things she accomplished were: She unified Spain through her marriage to Ferdinand ll of Argon, and she financed the expedition of Christopher Columbus, leading to the discovery of the Americas. She also completed the Reconquista but infamously expelled Jews and Muslims and empowered the Spanish inquisition. Along with all that she did she had some accomplishments she had some failures too and here are some of the things she failed were: Isabella was not so successful in solving her most serious political Problems: insubordinate nobles and a disputed succession. In her will written shortly before her death, she recognized her failings.

Charles I Fights Parliament

Charles 1 was the son of James. James took the throne but he only took it after he died. Charles was forced to recall the parliament. Charles signed a document that is known as the Petition of Right.  But in the petition of right the king only agreed to four points. Charles imposed fees and fines on the English people to gain money which led his popularity to decrease each year. Have you heard of the petition of rights? Well, that’s one of the things that impacted the absolutism and constitutionalism in Europe but a petition of right is no taxation without the consent of parliament, no imprisonment without cause, no quartering of soldiers on subjects, and no martial law in peacetime. You may not know what a petition is so let me tell you, it is a formal written request, but the petition of rights was written by parliament as an object to an overreach of authority by King Charles l.

War Topples a King

Oliver Cromwell was a political and military leader. Cromwell was the first to write a detailed new constitution known as the Instrument of the Government. It placed great power in the executive formed by the ‘Protector’ many of the members were military commanders. The country continued to be governed by military rule however according to the Instrument the Protector was to summon Parliament at least once every three years. This was a constitution that reduced the power of the Council and recommended that Cromwell proclaim himself King. Cromwell was one of the generals on the parliamentary side in the English Civil War against King Charles I. Cromwell helped bring about the overthrow of the Stuart monarchy and as lord protector, he raised his country’s status leading the European power.

Charles II Reigns

Charles ll came to London in 1660. He was a Catholic monarchy which during his ruling it was called the Restoration. During his ruling he made many political acts and laws such as The Habeas Corpus Act guarantees freedom for prisoners and allows them to have a written document that says they can go before the court and specify charges against the prisoner. The Habeas Corpus Act a monarchy could not put someone in jail simply for opposing the ruler. Also, prisoners could not be put in jail forever without trial. Soon the Parliament would find someone to inherit Charles’s throne but since he had no children the next available in line was his brother James ll. James ll became king in 1685 soon after Charles ll died. James soon offended his subject by displaying his catholicism. He then violated the English law as he appointed several Catholics to high office. In 1688 James’s second wife gave birth to a son. The English Protestants became afraid of the prospect of a line of catholic kings. He even had a daughter named Mary. Mary was married to William, The prince of the Netherlands. The parliament members invited William and Mary to overthrow James for the sake of Protestantism. But then once William led his army to London in 1688, James fled to France. This bloody overthrow was called the Glorious Revolution.

 Cabinet System Develops

King William and Mary transferred England from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy. This constitutional monarchy limited the power of the ruler and gave that power back to the people. To protect this, the Bill of Rights was erected. The Bill of Rights stated the rights of the citizens that lived within their borders. These rights couldn’t be enacted without the consent of the Monarch and in the 1700s this came to be an issue. So they created another part of the government called the cabinet. The cabinet was a group of representatives led by the Prime Minister: the leader of the parliament; that represented the ruler’s name and became the link between the monarchy and the parliament. This all created an everlasting change that forever changed England from an absolute and unjust rule to a more fair and balanced constitutional system. In the English bill of rights, some of the rights were 1. No suspending of Parliament’s laws; 2. No levying of taxes without a specific grant from Parliament; 3. No interfering with freedom of speech in Parliament; 4. No penalty for a citizen who petitions the king about grievances.

Latin Americans

People don’t know that today the Bill of Rights doesn’t apply to people from out of the U.S. just because they aren’t U.S. citizens. At least give them a chance to show you that they can be a responsible and caring citizen instead of sending them back to Mexico. And that brings me to an organization which is The Latin America Working Group (LAWG) and its sister organization, the Latin America Working Group Education Fund (LAWGEF), mobilize concerned citizens, organizations, and networks to call for just U.S. policies towards Latin America and the Caribbean. Some of the things they do are try to Promote Peace, Protect Migrants & Refugees, Uphold Justice & Defend the Defenders, and Advance Land, Economic & Environmental Rights.

For me, I think that the Protect migrants and refugees were one of the most important ones because as I was looking through all the stuff they were trying to do for the Latin Americans I just felt as if they were doing a better job with this like LAWG echoes the sentiments raised by our partners in this hearing and will continue to monitor the conditions of human rights in the region while pushing for more humanitarian policies that protect all migrants and asylum seekers. This has been going on since our founding in 1983. You can find them Everywhere around the U.S. Their mission is to ensure that U.S. policies advance human rights, peace, and social, environmental, and economic justice in Latin America and the Caribbean. To achieve this mission, we work with coalition partners and allied organizations to educate policymakers and the public and to mobilize a broad, diverse, and powerful grassroots base that can influence U.S. policymakers to achieve change.

The actions that the Latin American Working Group (LAWG) have done may influence others to take a stand and help out with their culture and what they believe. They can take leadership in putting together another Group of not just only Latin Americans, Maybe even people who believe in some of the same things Latins do. When the people of The Latin American Working Group were inspired it made them realize that this is something serious so they took the risk to create this group knowing that something could happen to them but they would rather take a risk to help out the Latin culture than just let it go by and let it get worse. What I could do is bring together my own group and Get the word out that Latin lives matter just as much as all lives. I would even create a website showing all the reasons that Latin lives matter and all that they have been through.

2020 Election Who Will Win?

We all know 2020 has not been the best year with all of this corona, killings, and protesting. We all also know that it is election time and that means voting. Who Will Win?

What is an election?

It is a formal and organized choice by the vote of a person for a political office or other position.

Who will win?

Joe Biden. The reason I think this is because if you take a look at the polls and all of the Comments that many people have given you can tell that Joe Biden will win. Like one news article said ” Joe Biden did a better job in the final debate on Thursday, according to a CNN instant poll of debate watchers. Overall, 53% of voters who watched the debate said that Biden won the matchup while 39% said that President Donald Trump did.” This shows us that when it is election day that if all of the 53% votes for Biden then he will most likely win. Also, the site shows us that when everything was going on that it was a close draw between whether trump and Bidens attacks and criticism. It shows us that Biden has a strong group behind him and here’s the sentence, ” Viewers once again said that Biden’s criticisms of Trump were largely fair (73% said they were fair 26% unfair), and they split over whether Trump’s attacks on Biden were fair (50% said yes, 49% no).” Then there is this quote about trump, ” In a CNN instant poll after the first presidential debate, just 28% said they thought the President has won the debate,” This shows that he really doesn’t have a lot of supporters behind him. “and 67% called his criticism of Biden unfair.” which shows us that all that trump has done at the debate now has most of his followers moving to Biden and now are supporting Biden. Now here are some graphs to show my reasoning.

These graphs and comments show that Joe Biden is doing a better job of getting his message across to the states and making the people believe that he is the best candidate for them and not Donald Trump. You can even see in the polls that Biden is leading by many points.

Am I happy about this?

Yes, I am happy. The reason why I am happy is because of what Biden supports. Biden has supported campaign finance reform including the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act and overturning Citizens United; the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act; the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009; tax credits for students; carbon emissions cap and trade; the increased infrastructure and LGBT. I like all the things he supports and I agree with them I just feel like he will be the best fit for The president.

Thank you for reading my reasoning behind who I think will win, why, and my opinion about this.

Mental Insanity

File:The Most Dangerous Game (1932) 4.jpg - Wikimedia Commons
This is the General and Rainsford Talking.

Life is full of mentally crazy people but one real crazy person is General Zaroff. General Zaroff is from a short story called ” The Most Dangerous Game” In this story, he makes someone called Ranisford hunt when really they don’t want to. He then laughs when Rainsford tries to tell them he wants to leave and the general says “no you have to hunt and play my little game!”. This makes me have a weird feeling about who he is because if someone wants to leave they should be able to leave but Rainsford cant but there are more crazy people just wait.

More people?

Yea there are many people who can become mentaly insane. Well I know someone who is very much insane, General Zarroff and a guy named Charles manson both have a type of insanity in them they both have the desire to a least kill someone for no reason. Now let me tell you a little bit about charles manson and why hes mentaly insane.

Charles Manson

Charles Manson
Charles Manson at court.

Who was he?

Charles Manson was an American criminal who spearheaded a murderous campaign with his followers, the Mason Family Cult, that would make him one of the most infamous figures in criminal history.

What did he do?

He crated The Mason Family Cult. “The Family” was a group of around 100 followers of Manson who shared his passion for an unconventional lifestyle and habitual use of hallucinogenic drugs, such as LSD and magic mushrooms. The Manson Family eventually moved from San Francisco to a deserted ranch in the San Fernando Valley.

What influendced him?

Manson was influenced not only by drugs, such as LSD, but by art works and music of the time, most notably The Beatles song “Helter Skelter,” from their 1968 White Album. Helter Skelter: The True Story of the Manson Murders was later the title of a best-selling book about Manson and his crimes written by Vincent Bugliosi.

Why did he do it?

Manson taught his followers that they were the reincarnation of the original Christians, and that the Romans were the establishment. He strongly implied that he was Christ; he often told a story envisioning himself on the cross with the nails in his feet and hands. At trial, the prosecution submitted that Manson and his followers believed that the murders would help precipitate that war. Manson intended to start a race war.

Conclusion

So yea there are a lot of crazy people i mean why keep someone to play a game. Or why kill people just for fun.

Step-by Step Heart Surgery

Some people don’t understand or know why people have to go through open-heart surgery. Well, I know what they do and why they have to go through this. The reason why is when blood can’t flow properly to the heart, a heart attack may occur. Open-heart surgery is also done to repair or replace heart valves, which allow blood to travel through the heart. repair damaged or abnormal areas of the heart. But here are some of the steps that acquire when people have this done.

Step 1: Sawing Through the Sternum

Anesthetic doses given for heart surgeries are standard for any major surgery–and have a component of analgesia, sedation and paralysis. All cardiac and respiratory parameters are carefully monitored and, once the patient is under, the surgeon gets out the saw.

Step 2: Working on the Heart

Becoming a cardiac surgeon means getting over a huge mental block: “You’ve got to get comfortable putting stitches into a beating heart,” Raman says.

The size and strength of stitches surgeons use to repair someone’s ticker can vary greatly depending on the procedure and part of the heart. When joining blood vessels–as in bypass surgery–doctors use sutures are made of polypropylene, a plastic polymer, and are as thin as a human hair. Doctors use magnifying surgical loupes when sewing this type of suture so they can see their stitching. Though these sutures are fine, they’re built to withstand pressure–suture companies have put them through controlled tests to simulate the pressure required to burst a vessel or disrupt tissue. When repairing or reconstructing heart muscle (like during a valve replacement), a heart surgeon uses thicker sutures.

Of course, some procedures require cutting, not just stitching tissues together. In a transplant, Raman will use an electrocautery, or diathermy, which cauterizes as it cuts and seals the small blood vessels, to cut through the pericardium, a sac that protects and contains the heart. He then removes the entire heart except for the back of the left atrium. When the heart is removed from the body, the patient is maintained on a heart-lung machine (also called a cardiopulmonary bypass machine), which oxygenates and circulates blood throughout the body, replacing the function of both the heart and the lungs. These machines are used in most cardiac surgical procedures, Raman says. The doctor will then trim the heart to fit snugly in the chest cavity and connect it to the left atrium again, specially tailoring each anastomosis–the joining of two blood vessels.

The amount of time required for a heart operation can vary wildly. What Raman calls a typical surgery–replacing an aortic valve–takes roughly 2 to 2-1/2 hours. But some that are a little more ambitious, like a heart transplant, require 7 to 8 hours.

Step 3: Putting the Sternum Back Together

Once the heart has been repaired, it’s time to put the sternum back together. But what about all those bony fragments? Fortunately, because heart surgeons break more bone than even orthopedic surgeons, repairing the sternum has been the focus of many surgical advances in the past few decades.

In the past, doctors used wire to repair the sternum, but this was problematic because bony fragments moved and did not remain aligned. Now surgeons use customized plates and screws to hold the breastbone and ribs in place as they heal. These, according to cardiothoracic surgeon Shahab Akhter of the University of Chicago Medical Center, provide better healing and lower risk of infection.

Step 4: Stitching Up the Skin

Gone are the days when stark black sutures were the mark of a surgery–surgeons now have a variety of options to employ. Akhter uses three layers to close the incisions. “No suture material is visible on or above the skin,” he says. “We use vicryl sutures for the first two layers and monocryl sutures for below the outside layer of the skin.” Both vicryl and monocryl sutures are absorbable and only used on soft tissue. Vicryl suturing typically holds strength for approximately two to three weeks and is fully absorbed within 60 days. Monocryl lasts longer, and is absorbed within 90 days. Open-heart surgery leaves a vertical scar on the skin over the sternum, and these scars are typically 7 to 10 inches long.

The Scarlet Ibis

Summary

The Scarlet Ibis is an amazing story it may even make you cry. The story was about a kid named Brother (That was all he went by in the story) his mom and dad and Doodle. Doodle was not a normal boy he couldn’t do what other kids could do. So Brother didn’t like that so he began to help his brother learn how to walk. Then one day a Ibis died in there front yard then doodle buried it. Later on in the story a storm came and brother and doodle ran towards the house but since brother had started teaching doodle how to walk he could run any more but brother left him behind and when brother came back doodle was dead. But there where many lessons to learn. Like 2 themes I found in the story where Love Versus Pride and Acceptance versus expectation. Here are some of my evidence that shows why I think those are some themes.

Love Versus Pride

“The Scarlet Ibis” takes a hard look at the consequences of pride. The knowledge that his baby brother may be not only weak but disabled is such a blow to the six-year-old narrator’s pride that he thinks about smothering his baby brother with a pillow. For the first years of Doodle’s life, the narrator attempts to dissociate himself from his brother. To avoid having to continue publicly his sibling, who he says is “a sight” with a too-big sunhat in a go-cart, he purposely oversets the vehicle, injuring Doodle. When rough treatment fails to keep Doodle from clinging to him, the narrator accepts that he will be associated with his brother. As a result, he begins working to help his brother out so that he’s not embarrassed by Doodle. The narrator insists Doodle continue his program of exercise despite the spell of fevers and nightmares the younger boy begins to experience. The narrator appears motivated by both fear of shame and a prideful admiration of his younger brother’s growth and determination, which have overcome all the doctor’s predictions. Ultimately, it is this pride that causes him to push Doodle too far. The younger boy, exhausted from weeks of exercise, can’t keep up and dies in the attempt.

Acceptance versus expectation

The narrator, six years old at the time of Doodle’s birth, has pinned his hopes on a brother who will be a playmate and companion in his adventures. He cannot conceive of anything less than the brother he envisions—and when presented with Doodle, which he sees as a poor substitute. He is inflexible; he prefers no brother to one that doesn’t meet his expectations, and he spends the next few years trying to dissociate himself from his sibling. When this fails, he attempts against all odds to mold Doodle into something closer to the brother he hoped for. Blinded by the vision of who Doodle could be, the narrator pushes his brother too hard. In the end, he unintentionally brings about the death he contemplated at the beginning of the story; he trades a brother who doesn’t meet his expectations for no brother at all.

Doodle’s parents, though better intentioned, also burden their son with their expectations from the moment he is born. They are so certain he won’t live that they have a coffin built for him and don’t even bother to name him for the first three months of his life. Eventually they name him “William Armstrong,” which the narrator reflects is “like tying a big tail on a small kite”—he thinks it is a name that “sounds good only on a tombstone.” Little by little, Doodle casts off his family’s and the doctor’s expectations; the coffin they built for him gathers dust in the attic next to the go-cart he once relied on to move. Yet even as Doodle proves himself much stronger than anyone anticipated, his mother continues to saddle.

Universal Theme

What I think this story is trying to tell us is ” Pride can get the best of people sometimes and Acceptance is better that expectations and people are better the way they were made.”.

Quality Questioning

1. Why is the Scarlet Ibis and Doodle both red?

2. Was there for-shadowing at any point in the story?

3. why is doodle so fascinated by the Scarlet Ibis?
